New Site/Blog

Hey Everyone. Hope all is well with my family, friends, and blog buds. I've been working on a new site/blog and it is now up and ready for visitors. I decided that since I was starting a new business, I wanted a site that would both function as a business website and a place to host my blog. Most of the site is completed, and the blog is up and ready for posting, but of course it is still a work in progress, so bear with me.

I'll be leaving That Girl Designs up for a while so everyone who visits here will know where to find me. At some point, I will point this web address to the new site. I have a new email for the business and blog, and have set up an easy "contact" page on the new site. I'll be blogging there just as I have here. If you wish to follow me, please do so at: sky-di.com/journal

It was time for me to move forward with a design business, and setting up a website was one of the first steps to get me on my way. I still have many items to add to the site (a list of services and gallery), but it feels good to have taken this step and I'm anxious to start adding to the journal at Sky D+I. I'd be thrilled if you would continue to include me in your blog reads, as so many of you have become friends and I'd miss you if you didn't. As always, thanks so much for the support you have shown me here. That Girl is forever grateful.

Hugs,
Ann

My Prize

This is a little over due, but I wanted to share with you that about a month ago, I entered (an won) a giveaway over at Design Ties. My prize arrived late last week and I couldn't be more thrilled.

The girls (Kelly & Victoria) put together an awesome interview with one of my all time favorite designers, the fabulous Mr. Jamie Drake. In addition to the interview, Mr. Drake was gracious enough to offer an autographed copy of his book. And, truth be told, I responded to the post with a comment not really because of the giveaway, but because the interview was the best I've read thus far about Mr. Drake and I really wanted to let the girls now how much I appreciated their efforts. Then, low and behold....I won! How cool is that? This was my first giveaway win and I am just over the moon excited to have a note from Mr. Drake himself on the inside cover of his awe inspiring book.

Thanks Kelly & Victoria! You gals rock!

If you haven't been introduced to Design Ties, do pop over and pay them a visit. Tons of design ideas, tips, inspiration, etc.

New Project - Fish Tank Stand

As if I don't have enough things going on right now, we bought this 1950s piece to use as our fish tank stand. I just couldn't bring myself to use one of those ugly (sorry if you have one) stands you can buy at the pet store that is made for tanks. Why is it so hard to design a cool tank stand? I don't get it. Anyway, last weekend we went on the hunt and found this baby at a vintage store for just 89 bucks.

Of course it has to be completely refinished, but who cares. It is going to make a great tank stand. It is very sturdy, made of solid wood which was a must as fish tanks weigh so much. Today I went and picked out some funky glass to have cut for the sliding doors. We plan to paint it a very high glass bright color (haven't decided what color yet), and use a solid surface for the top. I can't wait to show you the finished transformation.

Found these fun creations on greendesigngirl. They are by ceramic artist Wendy Walgate. She combines new work with vintage pieces. Just too much fun in my opinion. Visit Wendy's site for to learn more about this talented artist and her work.

Here's to a wonderful weekend for all of us.
What a strange week it has been. Yesterday, with the deaths of Farrah and MJ, I honestly feel like I said goodbye to a chunk of my childhood. I was a young girl in the 70s and adored Charlie's Angels. My brother had the famous Farrah poster hanging in his bedroom. I always liked Farrah then and over the last several months, have been inspired by her strength in facing and coping with her disease.

As I moved into my pre-teens and into high school, MJ's music and talent entranced me. I always wished I had studied dance, and watching him perform filled me with awe. I must confess that I tried to learn some of his signature moves, but never quite perfected them. I was a Michael Jackson fan when it wasn't cool to be a Michael Jackson fan; at least not in my peer group. Regardless of the unusual man he became, I'm thankful for the music and entertainment he gave us.

I hope that each of them has found their peace.

Hello everyone! Another Monday, another week. Summer is moving quite quickly, don't you think? I'm working with a new client on their kitchen overhaul, and while I was researching Caesarstone for possible counter tops, I came across this image on the their website. What a wonderful little office space.

If you are not familiar with Caesarstone, it is a great product. We've had other clients select it for their remodel projects, and they all seem to be very pleased with the choice. I'm considering it for our master bathroom and who knows, maybe our kitchen too.

Hope everyone has a great week. I'll be back soon.
